Courtney Thorne-Smith (born on November 8, 1967) is an American actress from the United States. She is best known for her leading roles in Melrose Place, Alison Parker on Melrose Place, Georgia Thomas on Ally McBeal, Cheryl Mabel in According to Jim and her frequent appearance in Two and a Half Men as Lyndsey McElroy.Thorne-Smith was born in San Francisco, California, and was raised in Menlo Park, a suburb south of San Francisco. Her father, Walter Smith, was a computer market researcher as was her mother, Lora Thorne, was a psychotherapist. Courtney aged seven years old at the time, separated from her father Walter Smith. She was a part of both parents for a variety of times. Jennifer is her older sister is an executive in the field of advertising. She graduated in 1985 from Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, California. She also performed with the Ensemble Theater Company in Mill Valley as she was in high school.
